Goa | Scholz thanks German soldiers in the Indo-Pacific

Exercises with Indian Navy

The two ships left Wilhelmshaven on May 7th and crossed the Atlantic before entering the Pacific through the Panama Canal. Most recently, they sailed through the Taiwan Strait despite Chinese warnings and have been practicing alongside Indian Navy ships in recent days. Today the two ships entered the Mormugao port in Goa.

Armaments cooperation with India is to be expanded

Germany and India concluded a strategic partnership more than 20 years ago and want to further intensify their cooperation in the security sector. This also includes arms exports. “That will play a bigger role in the future, and that’s right,” said Scholz.

Specifically, at the moment it is primarily about a major project. Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems would like to participate in the construction of six submarines for the Indian Navy. There was already a declaration of intent on this from last year, but no decision from the Indian government yet. Airbus would also like to sell A400M military transport aircraft to India, but contacts are still at the very beginning.
