The Ministry of Schools and Education announces:
The new internet portal “schulbewerbung.de” (Student Online 2.0) will in future offer parents and students the opportunity to apply to a school online as part of the registration process. The prerequisite is that the school authorities use the offer. Companies that want to register their vocational students at a vocational college as part of dual training can also access the digital offer. “The registration process will be easier and it will be digital. With a new internet offering, we are bringing everyone involved together on one platform. In this way, we ensure a high level of transparency for everyone involved and relieve the burden on schools and school authorities,” emphasized School and Education Minister Dorothee Feller.
As before, an application as part of the registration process at a school does not automatically mean that a child has actually been accepted. The headmaster decides about admission to the school after completing the registration process. There are special features specific to the type of school, for example with regard to the question of which documents must be submitted. The process will continue to be characterized by personal advice after registration. Until now, however, parents sometimes had to take their children to their desired school and submit application forms, copies of certificates or primary school recommendations in paper form – in person on site. This process is now made more transparent and simpler thanks to the digital process.
As before, the online application will be followed by a consultation at the school of your choice, depending on the type of school. If the first wish cannot be fulfilled, second and third wishes can be better taken into account when allocating places via the new internet portal. Schools and school administration receive a good overview of the application situation. If parents, students or companies cannot or do not want to use this online tool, the registration process can continue in the same way.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and with the support of the umbrella association of municipal IT service providers, the Minden-Ravensberg (Lippe) municipal data center has developed the new portal. For this purpose, the existing “Student Online” portal, which makes educational offerings at secondary level II digitally accessible, was further developed so that it meets the requirements of the Online Access Act (OZG): in the future, administrative services must be available digitally, barrier-free and, if possible, without media disruption.
The new portal had already been activated for schools and school authorities. This enabled them to prepare the next application processes for secondary schools for the 2024/25 school year. Since December 1, 2023, the portal and all its functionalities have also been available to parents, students and training companies. Registration for primary schools will not be possible until the 2025/26 school year.
For example, the system offers the following options:
- Apply to the desired school
- Naming second and third wishes
- Online support for procedures for early school enrollment, deferring school attendance and planning school entrance examinations
- Tips for applications and school type recommendations
- Documents required for the procedure can be uploaded
Only then, and if necessary after a personal appointment at the school, will the school management decide whether to accept you at the school.
School Minister Feller: “We are sure that the portal offers great added value, as all important information is available in a central location and can be easily accessed, which will not least enable better coordination of awards in the individual municipalities.”
The portal meets the technical requirements of data protection and information security. Barrier poverty is a given.
