Valve began active testing of CS:GO on the Source 2 engine back in December 2022. This was announced by the insider and dataminer Maxim Gabe Follower Poletaev on Twitter, citing his own sources.
According to Poletaev, Valve commissioned testing of the game to third-party companies from the US and Europe back in early December 2022. Earlier, the insider noted that some esportsmen were able to try out CS:GO on the Source 2 engine.
The first rumors that the developers will release CS:GO on Source 2 appeared in the spring of 2020. At the end of February 2023, more and more evidence began to appear that Valve would soon transfer the shooter to Source 2 – for example, NVIDIA released a new driver for video cards for the game Counter-Strike 2.
