Go back to Ukraine, what are you doing here?

The biggest problem for refugees from the war in Ukraine is finding housing for rent. The problem arose because of several incidents that undermined the credibility of landlords. Ukrainians left the apartments without calling. Now the owners want to sign long-term contracts, and the procedure itself is quite difficult, explained the founder of the Ukraine Support and Renovation Foundation Natalia Ellis, a reporter told Plovdiv24.bg.

According to her, Bulgarians are generally benevolent, although there are isolated negative cases. Such an example is the statement of parents at the playground: “Go back to Ukraine, what are you doing here?”. Natalia explained that she understands this attitude, because with the arrival of Ukrainians in Bulgaria there is a lot of competition in the labor market, and refugees agree to work at lower wages.

“We are very lucky in Plovdiv. There are one or two car cases, but there are no accidents. People are very friendly – they donate clothes, furniture, food. Now some people have taken a family of five to the dentist,” Ellis said. The foundation is now helping refugees register with the NRA to have health insurance and a GP.

“Thanks to Georgi Tityukov everything is fine. He never said “I can’t” when I ask for help. He says: “I can’t, but I will ask” – praises the Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs Natalia Ellis.
