GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture: Italy and Slovenia together for a project without borders

A place where the border has been crossed, a border which is today a symbol of union and collaboration between two cities: this is the strong suggestion of a European Capital of Culture for the first time “borderless”, the project in which the municipalities of Gorizia e Nova Gorica. With a day of events and initiatives without borders between Slovenia and Italy, between Nova Gorica and Gorizia, the countdown to GO! has officially started! 2025 European Capital of Culture: a carefully chosen date, because it coincides with the anniversary of the death of the Slovenian poet France Preseren – and for this reason it is National Culture Day in Slovenia – with the birth of the Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti who had fought in the First World War in the adjacent border areas, finding inspiration for his first collection of poems The buried port.

The GO!2025 countdown was inaugurated by the mayor of Nova Gorica Only Turel and the mayor of Gorizia Rodolfo Ziberna, which underlined the importance of a “borderless” investiture for the European Capital of Culture, hoping for future choices without borders capable of promoting the role of meeting and exchange between cultures, peoples and traditions that coexist in Europe. Many initiatives promoted between Nova Gorica and Gorizia, from guided tours on board #borderless buses, to the events that animated Nova Gorica such as the tribute to France Prešeren and the preview of the Official Program GO! 2025, the dance show of the MN Dance Company. In Gorizia, however, “GO! Borderless. Young people, borders and the power of communication” was the main theme of the meeting at Kinemax, with the students of the city schools as protagonists, called to discuss the issues of communication with journalists Fabrizio Brancolideputy director of the NEM Group e Toni Capuozzowar correspondent, supported by Patricia Arcticcouncilor of the Municipality of Gorizia in the European Capital and from Orazio Cerini representing the autonomous body Giffoni Experience / Giffoni Film Festival.

The GO! appointment 2025 is now renewed to the many initiatives that during 2024 will contribute to preparing and anticipating the events of the European Capital of Culture 2025.
