GNR saves fox in Ponte de Lima

The GNR Arcos de Valdevez Environmental Protection Nucleus (NPA) rescued, on Friday, a red fox, Foxes, in Cabração, Ponte de Lima.

“The animal was in a water retention pool that serves the plantation of Aveleda vineyards and, after the rescue, was returned to its natural habitat”, explains the GNR in a statement.

The action took place during a course of action by the military of Guarda together with the technicians and the Director of the Regional Hydrographic Administration of the North due to the reduction in the flow of the Estorãos River.

The reduction in the flow of that river has caused a lot of controversy with the Parish Council of Estorãos holding Aveleda responsible and, in turn, the company relieving responsibilities.

River in Ponte de Lima is almost dry. Aveleda guarantees not to be the cause of the problem

Questioned by O MINHO, APA revealed that it contacted a team from SEPNA, from the GNR of Arcos de Valdevez, to investigate on the ground the situations reported and that, after “due diligence on the spot, having traversed the sections of the Estorãos River upstream and downstream of the licensed surface abstraction, whose owner is the company Aveleda SA”, he verified that “there is a reduction in the river flow after the abstraction”.

For its part, Aveleda sent a right of reply to O MINHO in which it accuses the APA of lying in the clarifications sent to our newspaper.

“It is false that the SEPNA team, from the GNR of Arcos de Valdevez ‘has verified that there is a reduction in the flow of the river after abstraction’. This team only found that the flow of the river was below normal, never having related this decrease to the capture of Aveleda ”, says the company.

However, a theme came to the Assembly of the Republic through the Left Block, which questioned the government about the reasons for the “drastic reduction” in the flow of the Estorãos River and what measures the Government would take to guarantee “an essential condition for the preservation of that fluvial ecosystem” .
