“GM Introduces Fully Electric Portfolio in Europe, Starting in Scandinavia”

American concern GM is preparing to introduce an all-electric range for the European market, starting in Scandinavia later this year.

GM Europe president Jaclyn McQuaid confirmed the company’s plans to introduce a “fully electric portfolio” in Europe this fall. Autonews. The website also cites an anonymous source who revealed that the car company is first targeting the Nordic countries of Europe, i.e. Finland, Denmark, Sweden and especially Norway. After all, more than 80 percent of new vehicles sold in Norway last year were electric.

To prepare for the return, GM set up facilities in the UK and Ireland. It is expected that the flagship SUV Cadillac Lyriq should reach the Nordic markets first, along with vehicles from several other brands including Chevrolets.

The Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer are also potential candidates for the European market, along with vehicles from China, mainly Buick.

However, since Europe prefers smaller cars than Americans, larger cars like the GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado are less likely to make it to market. However, it’s worth noting that GM’s rival, Ford, recently announced that it will start selling a limited number of the electric F-150 Lightning pickup in Norway.

Although GM withdrew from the European volume segment in 2017 when it sold Opel and Vauxhall to PSA Group, today’s Stellantis, GM continued to sell a few niche vehicles in some markets, such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac Escalade. This is now starting to change from the north.
