“I am happy that we continue to progress from the last few games,” said coach Brian Priske on Wednesday. In the cup, his team easily defeated third league team Domažlice and followed the three league rounds with full points gain.
“It was terrible how we presented our team and our club,” the Danish manager apologized to the fans on Sunday. Sparta reached the pinnacle of embarrassment and lost to Slavia 0: 4.
The mental attitude of the rivals in the battle for Prague was unmatched. Although the sailors are not having an ideal season, they have been lit up for the derby as one man. The approach of the Spartans was incomprehensible. Perhaps only the interim captain, David Pavelka, showed signs of combativeness and determination to do something for the unfavorable development. No wonder that the protagonists with the red shirts signed themselves out of historical shame.
It can’t be an excuse that captain and greatest heartthrob Ladislav Krejčí Jr. didn’t have time to recover for the derby. After all, he is still only 23 and Sparta are scared and docile without him. Slavia have an even larger squad, while their rival was playfully coached by Jureček and Hromada, players who were not on the Conference League roster.
Sporting director Tomáš Rosický assured ahead of the season that Sparta’s ultimate goal is unequivocal, the title. That the club is at the beginning of a new journey with Prisk and wants to give her time and a chance.
The helplessness and helplessness in the derby were not only mental, but also playful. It was difficult to decipher what the guests actually got into the game with. During the autumn it has been said more than once that Sparta is easy for opponents to read. Priske refuses, but Jindřich Trpišovský taught him a lesson. His counterpart has instructed Douděra to pacify Höjer. And without the defender’s centers, who have the most assists in the league, it was after Sparta, because he didn’t offer any back-up plans.
“I am 100% sure that we are on the right track”, says Priske even after the derby. But who else will believe him?
When they evaluated the coach changes passed at Letná, there was always an immediate jump, when there was an improvement, and then there was a slowdown. They wanted to avoid it by involving Priske.
However, the Danish expert fails at the very beginning of the journey. His predecessor Pavel Vrba had at least one promising autumn last year, in which he led the team in the Europa League and, among other things, won the derby and ended Slavia’s long-standing dominance in Prague.
Priske’s successful start is completely absent. The cup trip ended in the preliminary round of the Conference League at the very first hurdle in Stavanger. In the league, Sparta are already nine points behind leaders Plzeň and the first really tough truth game ended in disaster at Eden.
The management promised the Dane patience. Under the given constellations, however, he will face an unpleasant dilemma. Do you keep your word despite the poor results, or do you finish the project with a foreign manager and thus admit another mistake of yours?
Priske still hasn’t had much room to influence the composition of the squad since joining in the summer. He took over Rosicky’s team. Fragile, immature and with a noticeable lack of leaders and fighters, as the derby showed in full nudity.
