The nightmare of “Gloria”
JUMP. A pretty villa, a loving husband, three children including a baby … Gloria relishes her happiness. One morning, her husband, David, a lawyer like her, gets in his car like every day to join their office. Then vanishes … Cécile Bois, the interpreter of the sparkling “Candice Renoir” on France 2, has here the opportunity to stand out in a darker and unvarnished role, over the course of this subtle drama, where her character plunges into a downward spiral.
The episodes, broadcast in preview on Salto, before their broadcast on TF1 from March 18, follow a sort of daily countdown. Beyond that, Gloria must face the gendarme in charge of the investigation who is angry with her for a previous affair (Barbara Schulz, amazing and hard under her raven-colored bangs), but also her stepmother (Nicole Calfan), and her beautiful -sister (Lucie Lucas)… Not to mention the one who keeps the local thugs (Anne Consigny) or a stubborn social worker. Tasty women’s duels around a plot that promises surprises.

Royal suite for “A Prince in New York 2”
AMAZON PRIME VIDEO. The comeback of the great Eddie Murphy is confirmed. After the excellent “Dolemite Is My Name”, on Netflix in 2019, the actor of the “Beverly Hills Cop” returns with the sequel to one of his most popular films, “A Prince in New York”, on Amazon Prime Video. Thirty-three years after the first feature film, here is Akeem again, prince who became king of the imaginary land of Zamunda. In the first installment, Akeem was traveling to New York, refusing an arranged marriage. Three decades later, he is preparing to celebrate his thirty years of marriage with Lisa. But a vision forces him to return to the United States.
This simple and effective scenario turns out to be a perfect setting to highlight the extent of Eddie Murphy’s talent. As in the first episode, the actor has fun, with great shots of special effects, to multiply the roles, in addition to that of the hero, by also playing the owner of a hairdressing salon or the libidinous singer of a funk group.
EDITOR’S RATING: 4/5
“A Prince in New York 2”, American comedy by Craig Brewer, with Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler… 1h50. On Amazon Prime Video.
“The Grave”, between thriller and science fiction
JUMP. Under the somewhat boilerplate title of “The Grave” (the grave, in French) hides an intriguing plot. That of the discovery of three skeletons in a nature reserve in northern Israel, during an earthquake. Problem: not only were the three individuals murdered by a bullet in the head, but their DNA matches that of people still alive who do not have a twin! After two episodes ticking the boxes of the thriller, “The Grave” operates a clear turn towards science fiction, via a well-brought twist.

But the main thing, as in any good story, is the characters. And those of “The Grave” are very well portrayed. We become attached to the hero, Yoel, who lost his wife in a car accident, raises his little boy alone, and at first has no idea why his DNA matches that of a corpse. Facing him, Chava is a police inspector who, under an imperturbable appearance, knows how to show humanity, but can also send off her superiors. A nice discovery.

«The Grave», Israeli series by Omri Givon, with Nadav Nates, Michal Kalman, Liana Ayun… 8 x 45 mn. On Salto.
Who to believe, in “Allen v. Farrow ”?
OCS. The series is called “Allen v. Farrow ”, that is to say Woody Allen versus Mia Farrow, clan against clan, like the two irreconcilable versions of a case which has hit the headlines for nearly thirty years. But it is also a misleading title, because the actor-director does not take part in this documentary series. She actually made good use of the audio version of her memoir. We can therefore hear her voice-over, which itself reads her autobiography, an audiobook distributed commercially, used here by extracts in counterpoint to the testimonies of Mia Farrow and her daughter Dylan, who accuses her father of sexual touching when she had 6 years.
Beyond this staging trick, the strength of the series, which clearly takes sides, lies in its raw documents and testimonies: Mia Farrow has given access to all of her family films. Whatever point of view one adopts, one cannot help but feel, in addition to unease and compassion, a sadness taken aback by so much misfortune, this open fracture, and these images from before, too beautiful for be true.

«Allen v. Farrow», American documentary mini-series by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, 4 X 50 mn. On OCS.
Expeditious justice with “Nomis”
MYCANAL. A police officer and a profiler are on the trail of a serial killer who sequesters young women before torturing and murdering them. They cross paths with an ex-judge and a young girl who track pedophiles before castrating them. All will soon get their hands on the killer, whose profile turns out to be very obscure …
Well conducted without however revolutionizing the genre, this new theatrical thriller is especially valid for this incredible duo of pedophile hunters formed by the great Ben Kingsley and the young Eliana Jones. You have to see these two, the old judge haunted by his past and the reckless post-teen, methodically hunt, without ever trembling, sexual predators who, once caught in their nets, show themselves to be terrified: it is a matter of speedy self-justice, but to contemplate the fear that changes sides is almost gratifying.
EDITOR’S RATING: 3/5
