Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Currently, global smartphone sales have plummeted, marking the continued sluggishness of the smartphone market. The Market Pulse report from research firm Counterpoint said sales fell 8% in Q3-2023 year-on-year (YoY).
Downtrend in sales smartphone globally has entered 9 consecutive quarters. Even so, there is still a glimmer of hope because it grew 2% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).
Samsung still dominates the global smartphone market with a market share of 20%, even though its sales decreased 13% YoY.
Counterpoint said Samsung’s performance was supported by sales of the Z Flip 5, which was almost twice as high as its competitors on the market. Apart from that, the Galaxy A series is also still the leader in the middle class segment.
Meanwhile, in second place is Apple, which earned 16% market share, even though its sales decreased 9% YoY. Sales of the iPhone 15 are predicted to provide bad ‘news’ for Apple for its next quarterly report.
Because, in the first 17 days of sales of the iPhone 15, the figure was reported to have fallen 4.5% compared to the iPhone 14. China, which is an important market for Apple, seems not too interested in the iPhone 15, where the Cupertino manufacturer’s position has fallen to number 2 and was beaten by Huawei.
Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo occupy positions 3rd to 5th respectively. Meanwhile, Honor, Huawei and Transsion Group showed slight growth. Collectively, other smartphone manufacturers combined control a 34% share of the smartphone market with sales growth of 2% so far.
