Globo uses Mandante Law and SporTV will broadcast São Paulo x Athletico

SporTV will broadcast São Paulo x Athletico, this Sunday, at 19:00 (Brasília time), for the Brazilian Series A using the Mandante Law. It is a change in Globo’s position, which previously did not use matches in which it only had the right to only one of the clubs – it went to the common court to prevent the Paraná club itself from using the legislation. The station does not have contracts with Athletico for TV Fechada or Premiere.

Passed in the Chamber, the Mandante Law gave the broadcasting rights only to the owner of the house. Globo fought against the measure when it was an interim measure. Then, judicially, I wanted the legislation to only apply to future contracts.

For the Brasileiro-2022, however, Globo decided to enforce its rights of agreement for the games as a visitor to Athletico. That’s because the team from Paraná only signed with the company for Open TV. The carioca broadcaster will broadcast the games of all teams with which it has new or changed contracts after the Mandante Law.

This is the case of São Paulo. Globo had already asked CBF to change the departure time from 6 pm to 7 pm. Now, it has been announced that the match will be broadcast on SporTV.

Other cases such as Palmeiras who signed new contracts with Globo will also have their games broadcast on SporTV and Premiere. Previously, the alviverde team had a commitment to WarnerMedia, which was broken.

With this, the blackouts of Brazilian games should be reduced or ended. Athletico will continue to broadcast their home games on Hurricane Play. And, in away matches, Globo will be able to show matches on Premiere and SporTV.
