Global warming – Britain warmed about 15 degrees before New Year

The Colvin Bay seaside resort on the Irish Sea coast in Wales set a previous record on December 31, 2011 of 14.8 degrees Celsius. This record was toppled in Reyhill on the last day of 2021 – the air temperature reached 14.9 degrees at 11 am.

At Coningsby, Lincolnshire, a maximum of 15.3 degrees was recorded and temperatures continued to rise throughout the day, the Met Office noted. Ultimately, Merrifield, Somerset, recorded a reading of 15.8 degrees.

“Today is the warmest New Year’s Eve on record in the UK,” forecasters said.
