Company Trendfocus, po message resource StorageNewsletter, published statistics on the global SSD market in the II quarter of 2023. The industry has shown mixed results, with demand for devices in the consumer segment growing, while sales of enterprise-class PCle and SAS solutions are declining.
Shipments of SSDs across all categories from April to June inclusive reached 74.889 million units, up 16.6% qoq. In terms of total capacity, deliveries increased by 12.4% to 64.114 EB. In the customer segment, QoQ sales increased 22.2% to 60.57 million units, while total capacity shipped rose 26.4% to 40.326 EB.
At the same time, the corporate sector showed a negative trend: here, the supply of PCle solutions fell by 24.3% compared to the first quarter of 2023, to 2.811 million units. Total capacity sold was down 12.4% to 11,959 EB. Sales of SAS devices were recorded at around 0.559 million units, their total capacity is 2.293 EB: this is respectively 31.8% and 19.9% less on a quarterly basis. At the same time, corporate SATA-devices showed an increase in pieces by 55.5% – up to 3.523 million, and the total shipped capacity increased by 26.4%, reaching 4.129 EB.
The top SSD vendors globally in Q2 2023 were Samsung (27.9%), Western Digital (14.3%) and Micron (13.3%) in unit terms. In terms of shipped capacity, the shares of these companies amounted to 34.6%, 13.2% and 12.4%, respectively.
