Global smartphone shipments fell 9% in the third quarter of 2022

A new study by Canalys shows a 9% decline in smartphone sales over the year. This is simply the worst third quarter since 2014. The historic decline in mobile device sales continues and the Canalys company does not see any easing on the horizon in the next six to nine months. Difficult conditions that lead suppliers to adapt to demand by limiting the accumulation of stocks as much as possible given the weakness of demand.

Samsung, which does not have a significant presence in China, has maintained its global leadership position with 22% of the market, aided by hefty discounts and promotions, according to the data. Apple came in second with a market share of 18% and the only supplier in the top five with positive annual growth.

Xiaomi clings to its third position in the manufacturers’ ranking with a market share of 14%, stable over a year. The two brands that are suffering the most are Oppo, still fourth, but down by one point, from 11% to 10% of market share. Vivo drops a little more, from 11% to 9%, while remaining fifth in the standings.
