Smartphone sales continued to collapse globally in the third quarter of this year 2023, according to data from Counterpoint Research.

Smartphone sales fell by 8% during the three summer months.

The company said that this decline is due to the slow recovery in consumer demand rates.

Sales of the iPhone 15 from Apple did not succeed in saving sales, but indications indicate that the last quarter of the year may break the pace of decline.

The company said, “The market is expected to witness a decline in total sales in 2023, reaching its lowest level in 10 years, largely due to a shift in device replacement patterns, specifically in developed markets.”

In 2022, smartphone makers sold about 1.39 billion smartphones worldwide, and this number is expected to decline to 1.34 billion in 2023, according to Statista data.

The South Korean company Samsung continued to lead the smartphone market, accounting for 20% of total sales.

Apple came in second place with 17% of the market, then Xiaomi was third with 14%, Oppo was fourth with 9%, and in fifth place came TRANSSION, which owns the Huawei and Honor brands, with 6%.
