“The projected global railway line, which runs from Spain through the southern part of Europe, should end in Lviv and the Lviv region will become the center of Ukraine in the future, which the European business community recognizes, stated the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, writes TASS.
He notes that the terminus of the planned Mediterranean railway is Lviv, not Kiev.
“It seems that this is the first recognition that Lviv-Lemberg, the name of the city when the region was part of the Austrian Empire, will be the new capital of Ukraine within the borders of the Lviv region. And the point here is not that the tracks of West and Malka Russia differ in width. It’s just that business is much more far-sighted than politicians,” Medvedev wrote on the X platform.
(In European countries and on the territory of the former Russian Empire and the USSR, the track width is different – 1435 millimeters versus 1520 – 1524 millimeters).
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported the plans of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to invest 225 million dollars in the construction of a 75-kilometer section of the railway with the European track.
The memorandum was signed by USAID and Ukrzheldoroga on December 4.
According to the project, the railway from Lviv to the EU borders should be part of a larger trans-European project, i.e. The Mediterranean Corridor, which starts in southern Spain.
