Enaire Shatters Records in 2024, Managing Over 2.3 Million Flights
Spain’s national manager of air navigation, Enaire, has once again broken its own record for managed flights in 2024. With a staggering 2,358,988 flights, this represents a 7.6% increase over 2023, a year that was already a record-breaking milestone.
The summer season of 2024 was especially remarkable, with Enaire breaking the absolute ancient traffic record on 71 occasions. The peak was reached on August 10, when 7,886 flights were managed in a single day. Compared to pre-COVID levels in 2019, the annual increase in flights is 9.7%, showcasing spain’s robust recovery and growth in air traffic.
Spain’s performance in 2024 also exceeds the european average by 2.4 percentage points, where the increase was 5.2%. When compared to 2019, Spain’s managed flights surpass the European average by 13.4 percentage points, as Europe’s overall traffic decreased by 3.7% in the same period.
Breakdown of Flight Categories
In 2024, international flights accounted for 1,354,960, a 9.5% increase over 2023. Overflights, which neither originate nor land in Spanish airports, totaled 537,634, up by 5.5%. National flights saw a 4.9% rise, reaching 466,394.
All of Enaire’s control centers experienced significant growth in 2024:
- Canary islands: 8.8% increase
- Barcelona: 8.5% increase
- Seville: 8.0% increase
- Madrid: 6.9% increase
- Palma: 5.8% increase
december alone saw 174,556 flights, a 6.5% increase over 2023 and a 17.3% rise compared to 2019. Of these, 95,379 were international flights, 42,821 overflights, and 36,356 national flights.
Enaire’s Commitment to Quality and Efficiency
Enaire’s perceived quality of services has also reached new heights.the latest survey exceeded the goal by 3 points, marking a 22.6% improvement in pilots’ satisfaction—the best score in the historical series. Over the four years of the enaire Strategic Plan, Flight Plan 2025, perceived quality has increased by 9.5%.In 2024, the efficiency of routes managed by Enaire until November was 96.7%, improving over 2019. This efficiency saved 3 million kilometers of flight distance, equivalent to 94 times around the Earth, prevented 57,000 tons of CO2 emissions, and saved 18,000 tons of fuel.
