Global News Anchor Leslie Horton Stands Up Against Body Shaming and Sexism

Global News anchor Leslie Horton received an e-mail from a viewer before the broadcast, the New York Post reports.

After watching a newscast hosted by Horton earlier that day, a viewer wrote in a letter: “Congratulations on your pregnancy. If you intend to wear old bus driver pants, you can expect emails like this.”

This was not the first time that Horton received e-mails from this particular sender. It has previously sent several messages “with the intention of humiliating and hurting him”, says the announcer.

Horton’s gauge was full, and she decided to respond live:

“Thank you, no, I’m not pregnant. I lost my uterus to cancer last year. And this is what women my age look like, so if that offends you, I feel sorry for you. Think about the emails you send.”

The 59-year-old announcer then explained that she had not intended to retort sharply, but the words came out on their own. “Maybe I’m tired of women announcers – and women in general – being treated like this. And I would say it gets on your nerves. This is not right and needs to stop.”

Viewers of the channel expressed their support for the woman and praised her for standing up for both herself and other women.
