Global Health has warned of a contaminated batch of a drug used to treat cancer in Lebanon and Yemen

The World Health Organization has issued a warning regarding the presence of a contaminated batch of METHOTREX 50 mg in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean region.

And he states in a statement: “The contaminated batch was found in Yemen and Lebanon after adverse effects appeared on sick children receiving the medicine”, noting that “the health authorities of the two countries conducted microbiological tests on the remaining sealed bottles , and the test results revealed the presence of the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa.” ), which indicates the contamination of products.

The organization stressed “the need to detect contaminated products and withdraw them from circulation to prevent harm to patients” and called for greater surveillance and caution at the level of supply chains in countries and territories potentially affected by this product.

He also advised to increase monitoring at the level of informal markets and urged the competent authorities to notify them immediately if this product has been discovered in the markets of their countries.

The World Health Organization has urged manufacturing companies to “conduct tests for microbial contamination before releasing batches of final products for use” and stressed the need to “obtain medicines through approved and licensed suppliers and closely monitor authenticity and physical condition of the products.”
