Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, head of the Infection Risk Management Program, at the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that the data show that countries that took the initiative to get the Coronavirus vaccine early, have reduced new infections with the virus thanks to the vaccine.
This came during the press conference held by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, now, by video link on the developments in the regional situation of the (Covid-19) pandemic, the humanitarian needs and priorities in Lebanon and Pakistan.
He stressed that the organization supports citizens’ access to Coronavirus vaccines and the start of priority groups for health workers, chronic disease sufferers and the elderly.
He added that hospital admission has decreased thanks to obtaining the Coronavirus vaccine, and priority groups must receive the vaccine, as there is strong evidence confirming that the mutation decreases with getting the vaccine due to the low infection rates, pointing out that the organization has approved two vaccines so far.
