Global disruption causes credit and debit card payment issues

On Monday afternoon, numerous readers reported that they could not pay for purchases by credit or debit card. The reason was global disruption.

From Monday afternoon to evening, problems could arise when paying with debit and credit cards. There have been disruptions worldwide since early Monday afternoon – Austria was also affected. Several readers reported that there were problems paying for their purchases. “I had to cancel my purchase at the checkout in embarrassment,” a reader from Switzerland told “20 Minutes”.

The problems seemed to arise independently of the bank. Credit cards from the provider Mastercard were particularly affected by the disruption, as numerous tweets suggest.

“Error in the network configuration”

However, there were also problems when paying with Visa, as can be seen from the “All disturbances” reporting platform. Shops were therefore forced to take action: several readers reported that they could only pay in cash.

According to Mastercard, the problem has now been resolved – the ORF “ZIB2” said on Monday evening that “an error in the network configuration had affected the services”.
