Global Corona Cases Dropped 17 Percent in the Last Four Weeks

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

World Health Organization (WHO) revealed the number of new cases Covid-19 around the world dropped for four weeks in a row.

More than 3.1 million new cases of Covid-19 were reported worldwide last week. The number is down 17 percent from the previous week and is the lowest number of cases worldwide since October 26, 2020.

Not only new cases, the global corona death rate was also reported to have fallen for two consecutive years. According to WHO data, 88,000 new deaths were reported last week, down 10 percent from the previous week.

“Although there are still many countries with an increasing number of cases, at the global level, this is encouraging,” said the WHO’s weekly report on Wednesday (10/2) as quoted from CNN.

The United States is still the largest contributor to new Covid-19 cases with 871,365. However, this figure decreased 19 percent from the previous week.

After the US, Brazil, France, Russia and Britain reported the highest number of new cases. However, the corona cases in these countries also decreased compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, Africa experienced the largest decrease in cases, namely 22 percent, and the East Mediterranean recorded the smallest decrease, namely 2 percent.

Overall, new cases in America account for more than half of new cases worldwide, with more than 1.5 million new cases and more than 45,000 new deaths.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, to date there are nearly 107 million cases of Covid-19 worldwide and more than 2.3 million deaths.

The world hopes that the corona virus vaccine can be a way out of this health crisis.

The WHO says the number of coronavirus vaccinations has exceeded the number of reported infections. However, more than three-quarters of vaccinations exist in only 10 countries which account for nearly 60 percent of global GDP. About 130 countries, with 2.5 billion people, have not injected a single dose
