International Camel Trekking Marathon Crowns Champions in UAE
The 14th annual His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Festival for Purebred Arabian Camel Racing adn Camel Races,held in Umm Al Quwain,UAE,recently concluded with a thrilling camel trekking marathon. Organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for the Revival of Heritage, the event showcased international athleticism and cultural exchange.
The two-kilometer race, divided into men’s and women’s categories, attracted 38 competitors representing 25 different countries. Many participants were veterans of previous marathons hosted by the Center,highlighting the growing global interest in this unique sporting event. Think of it as a global equestrian competition, but with camels instead of horses!
In a stunning display of skill and endurance, Alexis Hu of China secured first place in the women’s division, riding “Dubai Transit” to a winning time of 3:24:46.Meanwhile, Alexander Osterwald of Great Britain took the top spot in the men’s category, his mount “Hamrun” carrying him across the finish line in 3:47:39.
the awards ceremony was a significant event, attended by high-ranking officials including his excellency Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, director-General of the Camel Racing Federation and Acting Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage authority. Also in attendance were Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmouk, CEO of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center, and Rashid Hareb Al-Khasouni, Director of the Fazza Championships Department.
“The Center’s participation in the festival carries great meaning and a strategic vision that translates the Center’s goals in preserving and enhancing the authentic Emirati heritage,” emphasized Bin Dalmouk, underscoring the cultural significance of the event.
