The accident occurred on Sunday at 2.35 p.m. in the region of Bettlachberg, as the cantonal police in Solothurn announced. The pilot of a glider touched a power line in the Waldfluh area and then crashed into a rock face, after which the plane broke apart. According to the police, the man sustained serious injuries and had to be brought to hospital by Rega.

In addition to the air rescue service, several police patrols and two ambulances were also ordered for the rescue. The Swiss security investigation agency (Sust) opened an investigation. The cantonal police in Solothurn are asking witnesses of the accident to report to them (031 654 39 69).
