Glenn Greenwald hits out at WaPo’s Philip Bump for calling Hunter Biden’s laptop scandal a ‘conspiracy theory’

Substack reporter Glenn Greenwald slammed Washington Post national correspondent Philip Bump for calling the Hunter Biden laptop scandal a “conspiracy theory” despite reports that verified emails that emerged in the 2020 elections.

On Monday, Bump shared his “analysis” addressing “5 conspiracy theories that have yet to be proven, despite what you may have heard,” which lists disputes over the alleged FBI involvement in the January 6 riot, the allegations electoral fraud in Arizona as well as the Russian investigation’s links to the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016.

To conclude his article, the “conspiracy theory” on young Biden’s laptop which surfaced almost a year ago, which has been declared by much of the media as “Russian disinformation” despite all New York Post evidence and reporting removed by Big Tech.

POLITICO CONFIRMS HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP EMAILS AFTER MEDIA REPORTS STORY OF ‘RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION’ IN ELECTION

“If the laptop has been planted by the Russian secret service, for example, should it be brought up in the national conversation? This question is difficult to answer, but there were good reasons to ask it, ”Bump wrote. “Had Russia succeeded in hacking Hunter Biden’s online accounts to obtain material?” Was Giuliani fooled? turning it off ‘did not breed confidence.’

Bump then acknowledged Politico reports supporting some of the emails first published by the New York Post, but still defended the media’s reluctance to cover the laptop last year.

“The issue was not simply a question of disinformation but a Russian intervention. The publication of material by WikiLeaks in 2016 was also accused of being false, but the larger question that emerged was whether an effort already linked to Russia at that time should have been incorporated into election coverage. Much of last year’s answer centered on this same question, ”Bump said. “The fact that some of the emails were legitimate does not in fact prove that the initial response was unwarranted, nor that the genesis of the information was not in doubt.”

“In the meantime, claiming that unrelated details prove a conspiracy theory to be true is more revealing about those making the claim than the theory itself,” he added.

FROM ‘SMEAR CAMPAIGN’ TO ‘RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION’, LIBERAL MEDIA JOIN TO CALL HUNTER BIDEN’S STORY

It wasn’t until Friday that Bump’s article caught the attention of Greenwald, a vocal media critic, especially in his handling of the Hunter Biden story.

“WPost @pbump’s ‘fact checker’ continues to classify the Biden laptop as a ‘conspiracy theory’ even after a new book from POLITICO’s @SchreckReports proves key emails are real,” said reacted Greenwald. “The real ‘conspiracy theory’ is the media and CIA lie that this was ‘Russian disinformation’.”

Greenwald continued: “This whole ‘fact check’ reads like a press release from the DNC. lofty, noble and trustworthy, as if they were neutral or whatever.

Bump retaliated by telling Greenwald, “I’m not a fact-checker and the point of the article is precisely that the validity of emails is largely irrelevant, but otherwise good things.”

To which Greenwald replied: “The dominant media claim – copied from the CIA – was that the laptop was Russian ** disinformation **. Many still believe in these bulls -. But you can’t call it a conspiracy theory because your job is to protect liberal media conspiracy theories, not debunk them. ”
