Unsurprisingly, the number one manga publisher in France is planning a return to school under the sign of continuity with the sequel to its most popular and expected series. We will thus be entitled to Dr Stone (volume 17 scheduled for 09/01/2021), the sequel to the cult series ofHitoshi Iwaaki Parasite Reversi (volume 2 scheduled for 09/01/2021), Tokyo Revengers (volume 14 scheduled for 09/01/2021) or Shadows House (volume 6 scheduled for 09/15/2021), which we await with the greatest impatience (our reviews of volume 1 here).
But a novelty crushes all the others as much in terms of promotion as of hype : One Piece. The cult series ofRoom is inexorably approaching its hundredth volume in bookstores, and it is volume 99 which will be released on September 15th. With the continuation of the Mugiwaras’ adventures on Wano Island and their titanic battle against two Emperors, the gnons will fly!
Like volume 98, released in May, and volume 100 which will arrive in November, volume 99 will appear in a “regular” edition and a limited collector’s edition with leather box. The enthusiasm generated by the collector’s edition of volume 98 hit the headlines and caused waves of stockouts both in bookstores and online. We can therefore advise you too much to pre-order your prestige edition of volume 99 as soon as possible … . The apprentice stock marketers who robbed the stocks of volume 98 are still waiting for their return on investment, and very few of those who post Leboncoin ads at € 200 per book find a buyer …
One Piece however, will not be the only one blockbuster in the spotlight of this return to school. Berserk still has a say! Indeed, the magazine My Young Animal, which pre-publishes the title in Japan, unveiled the imminent arrival of a final chapter of the saga on September 10.
This chapter, number 364, will bring as much as possible a conclusion to the immense saga of Kentaro Miura, died in May and thus leaving his series of dark fantasy in the pantheon of cult but unfinished works. Our tribute can be read here.
This chapter will be accompanied in Japan by a poster and a booklet bringing together tributes from many authors, as well as reproductions of notes and drafts left by Miura. We will nevertheless have to wait a bit before seeing this chapter published in bookstores in France …
In addition to the pursuits of its flagship series, Glénat has also planned the arrival of a new kid, teas for some time now and which promises to be very heavy: Shangri-La Frontier, by Katarina and Ryosuke Fuji. Saga of video game inspiration at the crossroads of a Matrix and a World of Warcraft, the first volume is scheduled for 09/08/2021.
The publisher relies heavily on the success of this series, and has particularly pushed it forward in recent weeks on social networks, including changing its name on Twitter. To see if the readers will be there, and for the undecided, our column will be available on ActuaBD on the day of the release.
