The American artist Sam Aldridge has worked for the new gallery for 10 weeks and is now back in Lommel to continue his residency and his own work. He is happy to see his artwork on display in the new gallery. How long has he worked on his artwork? “That depends on artwork to artwork,” he says. “Some only take you half an hour to work on, while others require a few hours.”
“I have been working with glass for more than 15 years. I was a demonstrating glass artist at the Silver Dollar City amusement park in America. I was a studio manager at the only glass studio in the Maldives. But I must say that working with the GlazenHuis in Lommel has been so far when it was my best work experience,” says Aldridge firmly. “There’s a sense of community, there’s a focus on detail and everyone here is a family. They encourage you and they understand that making glass art is sometimes a difficult process.”
