Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev will file a report to the National Tax Service and the Prosecutor’s Office in the case of the “Mama and Me” hospital. The information is from the Government Information Service.
It is specified that the purpose is to carry out a complete verification of the facts and circumstances related to the granting of permission for the construction of the medical facility.
The decision is in response to the wide public response related to the project. On Tuesday, the government approved the construction of the private hospital with investor “Targovska Liga”. Immediately afterwards, however, there was a wave of negative reactions due to fears that this could stop the construction of a state-run National Children’s Hospital.
The Cabinet reversed its decision. Glavchev explained that the arguments for this are public tension, as well as the disapproval of the project by President Rumen Radev, DPS and “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria”:
“I have listened to their arguments, as well as to the public discussion that has erupted, if I may use such a word, since we passed this decree. Nothing foreshadowed anything of the sort, but indeed caretaker governments should be primarily concerned with organizing fair and transparent elections. And such decisions, which have a more distant perspective, I am inclined to think, should not be undertaken by an official government”.
Dimitar Glavchev added that he would request written explanations from the Acting Minister of Health Galya Kondeva.
However, from the published transcript of the government meeting on April 30, when the permission to build the private hospital was accepted, it is clear that it was approved without discussion and without objection. There were none of these either from Prime Minister Glavchev or from other ministers.
The National Health Insurance Fund has officially confirmed that they have given two positive opinions on the “Mom and Me” hospital project.
On February 1, 2023, the first document was signed by the temporary manager of the Treasury, Dr. Yordanka Penkova. On November 27, the NHIF sent the Ministry of Health a second positive opinion about the private hospital. It was signed by the manager Stanimir Mihailov.
