In the shortest possible time, a National Register will be drawn up for the cases of pedophilia, carried out on the territory of the country, or in relation to Bulgarian citizens abroad who have sought help and support. This was stated by the acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev during today’s blitz control in the National Assembly. There is no greater value than Bulgarian children, he noted.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs creates and maintains a National Information System for the Prevention and Protection of Pedophilia and a National Register for cases of pedophilia committed on the territory of the country or in relation to Bulgarian citizens abroad who have sought help and support. This was voted in the second reading in July last year by the parliament with changes to the Act on protection from domestic violence. It had to be done within 12 months from the adoption of the texts, BTA recalls.
The national register of pedophiles in Bulgaria was supposed to start working on August 1 of this year, but to date it has not been created. This was said in mid-August by “Vazrazhdane” MP Angel Slavchev at a briefing in the parliament. He pointed out that on July 19 last year, the National Assembly voted a law to create such an information portal.
Slavchev noted that Petar Petrov from “Vazrazhdane” sent a letter to the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalin Stoyanov, to ask him when such a register would start operating. The answer was that
a broad interagency group is yet to be established.
He turned to the interior minister with the question of which is more important – to take down a satirical website in one day or to make a national register of pedophiles in Bulgaria. Slavchev pointed out that such an information portal exists in France, the USA, Canada, and Israel.
“Once again, the National Assembly votes laws, but the state administration does not implement them,” commented the MP from “Vazrazhdane”. “Our call is for this to be done as soon as possible, because we know very well that some people with non-traditional sexual orientation also have a tendency, according to general data, to pedophilia,” commented the politician.
