Glass Strenči nominated among the 10 best photo books published in the world this year / Diena

Fotogrāmata Glass Strenči has been created from a unique document of the era – from the glass photo plates of the archives of the Strenči photo workshop, which are stored in the Latvian Museum of Photography. The book consists of images from the interwar period, which show the daily and festive moments of the Strenči community. The photographs of the founder of the workshop Dāvis Spunde and the successor of his creative activity – representatives of the Kraukļi family – tell about the time of the nation’s formation and technical progress, which rapidly changed the way of life in the province. The friendly relationship in the community and the perseverance of the photographers created a special sense of closeness and a unique handwriting of the masters, which is now highly valued by world experts in photography. Dāvis Spunde has said that history is photographed and that every event must be captured.

World-renowned photography critic Jorgs Kolbergs (Jörg Colberg) in the magazine Conscientious Photography Magazine writes: “I am absolutely sure of one thing: every time I am disappointed in the world of photography [..], I will be able to look up this book and look at the pictures that will remind me how charming and happy photography can be. Indeed, I had never seen such a great photo book in a long time. “
