The pedestrian alley that connects Independţei and Vasile Alecsandri streets in Oradea was restricted to traffic, on Sunday, by the Local Police, after shards of glass started falling from one of the buildings on one side of the passage.
The building of the Micula brothers
Pieces of glass falling on the footpath, probably caused by the strong wind outside, were reported to 112 at around 3.50pm. Several police teams went to the scene and determined that the shards were falling from the windows of the building owned by the Bihor magnates Ioan and Viorel Micula.
“It is about the building that is on the right side of the passage, from Independence Street. The owners have been notified of this problem, and the building is anyway on the list of those overtaxed by 500% (no because of the state it is in)“, he declared for Bihor the head of the Oradea Local Police, Samuel Milian.
The local police secured and closed the area using safety tapes.
Thus, access is prohibited until the building owner resolves the issue.
expropriation
The pedestrian passage between the two main arteries in the city center was opened in 2020, when Oradea City Hall put it into use.
The development project included the expropriation of 510 square meters of land, a site that was also owned by the Micula brothers’ trust.
