The presidential couple will spend the night in a luxury hotel in the city center before starting their next trip on Friday morning. However, they will not leave Bedřich Smetana’s birthplace empty-handed.

“We will sell them a glass Litomyšl lily from the artistic glassmaker Jiří Pačinek,” Fišer pointed out. This is a unique paperweight with a blown-up lily inside. Paperweight production is now finished in Jiří Pačinek’s glass factory in Kunratice near Cvikov in the north of Bohemia.

People have been calling the Aplaus Hotel for several days wondering if they will be able to meet the President and the First Lady right here. Petr Pavel and his entourage are supposed to arrive in Litomyšl around half past six in the evening.

“My wife and I will welcome him at the hotel, the presidential couple will have dinner, and then they will go to the Festival Hall. Mr. President and security guards are open to meetings with the public. If people come to the hotel, he likes to take a picture with them, shake their hand. They don’t oppose it,” assured Fischer. However, people will not be able to enter the restaurant during the president’s dinner, according to the hotel management, all tables are already reserved.

The President is coming to the festival for the first time since 2012. That was the last time Václav Klaus started Smetanova Litomyšl as president. Petr Pavel took over the patronage of the festival this year. “President Miloš Zeman never came, but Václav Klaus came regularly. He fell in love with the festival so much that he will come again this year,” said Jan Pikna, director of Smetana Litomyšle.
