Glasgow protesters stop immigration van, men released

The arrest of the men went wrong with many protesters, because the Sugar Feast was celebrated yesterday. The neighborhood they live in is “the heart of a large Muslim community,” said Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

One of the protesters says that the protest was a result of the “hostility” of the British government. “That this eviction happens on Eid, which is meant to be a peaceful celebration, is horrifying” says another protester against The Guardian.

Lots of infections

Sturgeon praises the police for their decision to release the men. She also accused the British government of creating a “dangerous situation”, partly because there are many corona infections in the area. The British Immigration Service is responsible for everything related to immigration and deportation throughout the United Kingdom, including Scotland.

According to the British Home Office, the men were arrested on suspicion of violating immigration laws. It is not clear what the status of the two men is now.
