Glasgow comes to ‘methane pact’: more than a hundred countries want to emit less

After CO2, methane is the most important cause of climate change. The greenhouse gas, which is a much stronger greenhouse gas than CO2, is mainly emitted by livestock, waste processors and the oil and gas industry. The agreements on methane are expected to limit global warming by at least 0.2 degrees by 2050.

Earlier in the day, it was announced that more than 100 world leaders have pledged to end by 2030 deforestation. With that, the top’s first big promise was a fact.

To combat deforestation, approximately 16.5 billion euros is being released from public and private funds. Some of it is used to restore damaged areas of forest, fight wildfires and support indigenous peoples. The commitments made by the Netherlands are expected to cost at least 170 million euros.
