The day before yesterday, a test screening of the film Gladiator 2 took place in Las Vegas. The first impressions of the screening participants are now available online – to say that they are enthusiastic is actually an understatement. Ridley Scott’s production has been described as “thrilling” and “Oscar-worthy”, and some of its scenes are “absolutely crazy” and can be terrifying. It is noted that although the sequel to the famous 2000 story “follows similar plot lines,” it actually offers viewers a “unique approach” to the world of ancient Rome.
Gladiator 2 – duration and bloody scene with monkeys
The duration of the version presented in Las Vegas is 2 hours and 40 minutes. The script is to focus primarily on an extremely insightful and exciting story about revenge, which does not mean that it does not contain shocking scenes. One of them is to be a sequence with monkeys tearing off the skin from the faces and breaking the bones of the fighters in the gladiatorial arena.
Who does Pedro Pascal play? There is also the true villain of the story
We hear other plot details that may become the flashpoint of the entire story: Pedro Pascal plays the stepfather of Paul Mescal’s character. The on-screen Lucius is sent to battle – during his stay in the army, his wife and adoptive mother died at the hands of mysterious executioners. It is this fact that makes the hero go to Rome to seek revenge. The Eternal City itself is shaken by the character of Denzel Washington, called “the puppet master” and “the real villain of the story”; he will be very impressed by Lucius’ actions.
Assessment of acting performances
According to new reports Gladiator 2 stands also in figures. Interestingly, Paul Mescal’s performance is said to be “subdued but effective.” Connie Nielsen gives a real performance as the protagonist’s on-screen mother; the actress “did a great job” and her performance is very emotional – there were immediate voices about a “certain nomination for an Oscar”. Denzel Washington’s performance is also said to be “brilliant”, while Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger as the emperors who co-rule the empire turned out to be “entertaining personalities”.
Sharks in Rome
The show’s participants also rave about the set design, costumes and especially the music by Harry Gregson-Williams – the latter is said to be “excellent”. In addition, the fight scenes look great – we will see not only monkeys, but also a rhinoceros and… sharks. The work already looks “almost finished” – only details need to be refined, such as showing blood on the dying.
Let us recall that a few weeks ago there were reports that the owners of Paramount Pictures were to be “crushed” by the material Scott showed them.
