For the final weekend of play, Schmidt had almost the last available squad from his squad. After the single matches it was 2: 2, Rosol and Nedovyesov had won their matches, Haase and Menendez lost. This was repeated in doubles games: the duo Haase and Menendez lost, Rosol and Nedovyesov won. In the end it was 3: 3 against Aisgrana.

Gladbach finished the season in seventh place with 9: 9 points, with plenty of room to move up and down. At the end of the season Rochusclub Düsseldorf, remained unbeaten with 16: 2 points and champion of Germany for the first time in the history of the club. “Nobody had foreseen it. Grosshesselohe was the big favorite. But Düsseldorf had a strong season and was in a similarly successful wave as our championship in 2016,” says Schmidt.

Instead, newly promoted teams such as TC Ludwigshafen and Blau-Weiß Krefeld, a traditional club, must leave the Bundesliga . “It is a pity that Krefeld is relegated”, says Schmidt, “a well-deserved club with a great deal of commitment in the Bundesliga and many spectators. I hope Krefeld will recover quickly.”
