Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach is dependent on previous player sales for possible new winter signings. “We are not in a situation where we can act immediately,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “We are more in a situation where we have to react.” According to Virkus, if the players leave Borussia, the club is prepared. “We have an eye on the transfer market and one or two players have been scouted and pre-discovered,” Virkus said.
In the summer of 2023, the contracts of Gladbach’s top scorer Marcus Thuram and strong left-back Ramy Bensebaini will expire. If the players don’t extend their contracts, the winter transfer window would be Gladbach’s last chance to get another share. From a sporting point of view, a change of Thuram in winter would be very difficult to compensate.
