Fourth day at Tegernsee! On the morning after the 1-0 victory in the first training camp test against Holstein Kiel, the Borussia professionals also took to the pitch on Tuesday (July 30, 2024).
This time, however, coach Gerardo Seoane (45) loosened the reins a little: the session, which lasted just under an hour, began with joint stability exercises. After that, however, the focus was on having fun.
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Prominent guest at Tegernsee
The Fohlen stars then duelled extensively in football tennis on the adjacent pitch. The “final” was then played in front of 300 interested fans and amidst the applause and loud cheers of their teammates, with the team consisting of Ko Itakura (27), Stefan Lainer (31) and Kilian Sauck (17) against the trio Tomas Cvancara (23), Fabio Chiarodia (19) and young goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso (18).
Then the whistle sounded – and coach Seoane gathered his team together for a few final words. It remained unclear who the winning team was. After training, however, defender Marvin Friedrich (28) posted a snapshot with Joe Scally (21) and Nathan Ngoumou (24) and described the trio as the “winning team” of the tournament. Either way: both the Gladbach professionals on the pitch and the curious fans had fun.
This was certainly also a reason for the somewhat more compact unit: the temperatures in Bavaria were once again sweltering, and the sun was burning down on the pitch relentlessly. “It’s really exhausting in the heat,” said striker Tim Kleindienst (28) afterwards.
And: After former Borussia professional Martin Stranzl (44) had stopped by at Tegernsee the day before, there was also a prominent training spectator this time. This time, Bundesliga legend Uli Borowka (62) visited the Gladbach team in Rottach-Egern!
The former defender was notorious for his tough style of play in the Bundesliga during his playing days. Borowka also played for Borussia Mönchengladbach during his career: between 1981 and 1987 he played in 194 competitive matches for the Fohlen. He then moved to Werder Bremen, where Borowka spent his most successful time.
After the end of his career, Borowka caused quite a stir off the pitch and also battled his alcohol addiction. But the ex-Borussia professional is now doing better. The ex-defender has also written a book about his experiences and thoughts about the difficult time after his professional career.
A morning session is also scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The second friendly match of the training camp will take place on Friday from 2.30 p.m.: The match will be against Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town in Heimstetten near Munich.
