Borussia Mönchengladbach II has had a strong start to the season. On Friday evening (23 August, 7.30 p.m.) coach Eugen Polanski’s team will face Fortuna Köln.
Die U23 von Borussia Mönchengladbach has entered the 2024/25 season with three wins and one draw in the Regional League West started. Now, on matchday 4, second-placed Fortuna Köln awaits. Alongside MSV Duisburg, they are the only team that has not dropped a point after four games.
Before the top match on Friday evening (23 August, 7.30 p.m.), third-placed Gladbach are only slightly worse off with ten points. They have only dropped points so far in the 1:1 draw against Eintracht Hohkeppel.
“We have had a good start to the season, not only in terms of points, but also in terms of playing skills. We have improved steadily and the quality of training has been very high for a long time. Accordingly, we have a very well-functioning team,” says Fohlen coach Eugene Polanski his team’s performance so far to the club media.
Fortuna Cologne is now a real test for Polanski’s eleven. A real highlight for the Gladbach II coach: “Fortuna Cologne on a Friday evening, beautiful stadium, cool atmosphere – an absolute highlight game. And there’s a reason why they have so many points. They have a strong team that is experienced. So we can expect a really good team.”
The former Bundesliga professional knows full well that his team must reach its full potential in order to be able to hold its own against the strong Cologne team. “Against Fortuna we have to reach our limits, both offensively and defensively. Of course we also want to be dominant, but we are facing a team that wants that too. So we will have to give them possession of the ball, but only in the areas where we want it. The match offers the best conditions to be a really cool game for the neutral spectator too. I am very excited about Friday,” says Polanski.
The 38-year-old will have to do without the injured Tony Reitz, Ibrahim Digberekou and Michael Nduka.
