Gladbach coach Seoane: Everyone sits on a chair with a red button

Mönchengladbach football coach Gerardo Seoane does not feel any excessive pressure before the start of the new Bundesliga season. “As a coach, you must not be afraid of bad results and possible consequences. The day you decide to pursue this profession, you know: We are all sitting on a chair with a red button. We coaches have come to terms with that,” the 45-year-old Swiss told “Kicker”.

Despite various sporting setbacks, he did not feel any fear of being fired last season. “I cannot judge whether or not eventualities were discussed behind closed doors. But such a thought never occurred to me because in the discussions I and the coaching team were repeatedly given the feeling that we were going down this path together,” said Seoane.

Top half of the table as season goal

After the disappointing 14th place last season, the coach sees Borussia, which opens the season on Friday (8.30 p.m.) with a home game against his former club Bayer Leverkusen, well on its way to higher regions of the table: “I believe that we are more competitive than at the beginning of last season. We now have a more robust team. I see progress in game control, in balance, in speed in attacking play.”

Seoane believes that the club management’s goal for the season of moving into the top half of the table is achievable: “If you put everything together, the potential of the team, the size of the club, the environment and the outstanding infrastructure, then you should be aiming for the top half of the table.”
