Linz. I am studying to be a primary school teacher at the PHDL. In the course of a course and a voluntary commitment I was allowed to get to know the association: Daraja- Die Brücke. An association that supports HIV-positive people in Kenya. What I learned about the association and how we can all make our contribution, I would like to tell you here. Especially in times like these, cohesion and togetherness are of great importance!
The word “Daraja” is Kiswahili and means bridge. A bridge of development cooperation is to be built between Austria and Kenya. I was able to get to know the association as a young, dynamic team, which is very keen to promote cooperation with Emali, Kenya, with creative ideas even in times of Corona. Since it is currently not possible to be active on site, great importance is attached to maintaining regular contact. A digital report comes from Emali once a month; Answers to questions asked and information about the current situation.
Daraja-Die Brücke is characterized by the fact that they offer help through self-help. The local social workers, for example, offer workshops so that the women can learn a trade and thus finance themselves. Usually donations are collected through various events, 90% of which benefit the Emali project.
Anyone who wants to show in times of these that cohesion is possible even over a distance of thousands of kilometers can give help through donations.
You can enable a child to attend elementary school or finance training for sewing training so that the participants can open their own business. Even a small amount of money can ensure that project members and families receive basic medical care.
You can find more about the special purpose donations and further information about Daraja- Die Brücke at www.daraja.at
Let’s show those who need help that they are not alone!
