Giut Breidi: The Game That Promotes Latgalian Language and Culture

The representative of the “Giut breidi” group, Līga Springa, says: “While creating the planner and this year also the game, I caught myself thinking that I have fulfilled big dreams that once seemed impossible. “Giut breidi” has been reminding us for the third year that dreams are destined to come true, that our ideas must live and give them a chance to prove themselves. The biggest support on a daily basis is the people and the team who implement all the crazy ideas. The main thing is that the eyes of the “Giut breidi” family are burning with an idea and everything else becomes unimportant, we see a goal, set a task and slowly move forward, so that as a result you can plan a year with us, in our planner. This year, on the other hand, we offer you to find time for relaxation on holidays or in everyday life and also play the game “A kas ite?”. May everything work out for you too, believe!”

If there is a desire, the players of the game are invited to send information about what Latvian words are used on the side where the players have gathered to the e-mail address [email protected]. Every activity is important for the Latgalian language!

The game offers at least three ways to play: create sentences, narratives and the like from words, play “Dumb show in Latgalian” and compete in teams to explain words. But the game is also a collection of words that can be used for other activities.

The game is already available on the website www.giutbreidi.lv and will find its place both under the Christmas tree and also gather as an amusing entertainment after the festive dinner. However, its value is definitely for long-term use – in schools and interest education, promoting the learning of the lexicon and spelling of the written Latgalian language.
