Giuseppe Conteleader del 5 Star Movementfirmly rejects the idea of a possible alliance with Matteo Renzi and his political group in Liguria, highlighting the line of coherence and credibility which has always characterized the M5S. According to Conte, those who try to reduce the politics to a numerical question “he should leave calculators aside”. Commenting on the electoral results, Conte states: «Hypothesizing imaginative alliances with Renzi and his followers would only have caused the M5S and therefore the coalition to lose even more votes, to those who wanted to shake up the whole of Liguria».
The president of the M5S also underlines the need not to compromise the values of the movement for mere power interests. In his opinion, the high abstention recorded in Liguria represents a signal that requires deep reflection: «You cannot trade the credibility of a political project with the interests of some powerful group ready to move its package of votes to the court of the highest bidder”.
Conte expresses his regret for the failed victory of Andrea Orlandodefining his commitment as “commendable”, and adding that, despite the result, the entire coalition faced this electoral cycle “with head held high”.
Also Vittoria BaldinoM5S deputy, stands against any hypothesis of collaboration with Renzi. Speaking during an interview on Rai3, he reiterates his position, criticizing Renzi’s lack of coherence: «Renzi is a troublemaker, a fixer who wanted to keep his feet in both shoes». Baldino wonders which one credibility can guarantee an alliance with a politician who, according to him, “had a councilor in Bucci’s council”.
