With 86 minutes of play, the 20-year-old striker suffered a very hard challenge from José Matos, defender of Burgos. Simeone’s suffering and the reactions of players from both teams and even some spectators immediately hinted at the seriousness of the situation.
The game was soon declared over and Giuliano Simeone, after being watched for several minutes on the pitch, left the pitch in an ambulance to applause from the players, staff members of both teams and fans.
Already this Monday, Alaves reported that the young footballer suffered a fracture of the left fibula with dislocation of the ankle. He is going to have surgery and faces a long lay-off.
Giuliano Simeone, who had recently been loaned from Atlético Madrid to Alavés, had scored the only goal for the Basque team in that game.
