GitLab acquires observability software maker Opsrace – IT Pro – News

GitLab has acquired Opsrace. That company makes observabilitysoftware that allows teams to debug and log their system. It is the first acquisition of the originally Dutch company since it went public this year.

Both GitLab and Opsrace create in the press release no details are known about the acquisition. For example, it is not known what the devops platform has paid and whether all employees will transfer to the new employer. GitLab does say it plans to integrate Opsrace’s technology into GitLab Monitor. In addition, the tools will become available to users who host GitLab themselves as well as those who purchase from the platform itself.

Opsrace makes software for observability, a term within devops used for debugging and monitoring software of live systems. The software that Opsrace makes is open source. GitLab says the acquisition will make it the first company to integrate open source observability software into an application that contains both a user interface and a data store. “We believe organizations should not have to choose between an expensive software-as-a-service solution that doesn’t match their organization’s price and a do-it-yourself solution tied together with open source components,” the company writes.

The acquisition is GitLab’s first since the company went public in October. GitLab already has several monitoring functions in the software, but they are not extensive and do not have observability capabilities.
