GISMETEO: Record Heavy Bone Fish Discovered Near Azores – Animals

This is a sunfish that had already died swimming near Faial Island. The fish weighs 2.74 tons, which is 0.4 tons more than the previous record. The creature boasted a length of 3.25 meters.

The honor of the find belongs to Jose Gomez-Pereira (part of the Atlantic Society of Portuguese Naturalists).

Why the fish died has not yet been established. Closer to his head was a dent with red paint marks, like the one that paints the keel of a boat. However, it is unclear whether the mark appeared before or after death.

The former holder of the title of “heaviest bony fish” also belonged to this species. Its weight was 2.3 tons, length 2.72 meters. The creation was discovered in 1996 near the city of Kamogawa (Japan).

A huge tuna fish was caught off the British coast last week, weighing 408 kg and 2.82 meters long. It became the largest fish ever caught in Wales. They let him go.
