WHO hosted a conference on “Scientific Strategies for Recent Outbreaks and Preparation for Pathogen X”.
For several years, the international organization has been drawing up a list of diseases and viruses to which greater attention needs to be paid. Ebola and Zika were on the list, but so-called “Disease X” was added in 2018 – an alleged infection that can cause an impending pandemic. A couple of years later, covid was recognized as a similar disease.
Now researchers have identified other pathogens that pose a potential danger to humans. First of all, the experts mentioned animal viruses. About one hundred and twenty of them pose a threat to humans and the most recent example is monkeypox.
In the near future, a pandemic could arise due to a mutational hybrid or bacterial infection. In this context, experts propose the development of vaccines and medicines for virus prototypes.
