“I am here with deep emotion, the trial has been a very difficult ordeal,” Giselle Pelico told reporters outside the courtroom minutes after Dominique Pelico and a total of 51 defendants were convicted in the gruesome rape case.
At the same time, she said she is thinking about her three children and her grandchildren. “Because these are the future. And for those I took up this battle. I also think of the many unrecognized victims whose stories often remain in the shadows. I want you to know that we share the same battle.”
She noted that her thoughts are also with the other families affected by this case and expressed her gratitude to those who supported her: “There was nothing else I could have done to help my family: When I opened the doors to this trial on September 2, I wanted society to be able to participate in this conversation. I have never regretted this decision.
I have confidence in our ability to collectively realize a future in which all, women and men, can live in harmony, with mutual respect and understanding.”
