MILAN: Olivier Giroud scored his first two league goals for AC Milan as the Rossoneri beat Cagliari 4-1 in Serie A on Sunday.
All goals have been scored in the first half, with Giroud scoring Milan’s last two goals after early strikes from Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leo. Alessandro Deiola briefly went 1-1 for Cagliari.
It was a second victory in as many games for Milan, still without Zlatan Ibrahimovi. The veteran striker remains out after injuring his knee in May and requiring surgery.
Jos Mourinhos Roma also scored four goals in his 4-0 win over newly promoted Salernitana.
In Milan, the home side opened the scoring when Tonali completed a free kick in the near top corner in the 12th minute. It was also his first goal for Milan and only a second in Serie A for the former Brescia midfielder.
Cagliari equalized three minutes later as Deiola directed a superb pass from Joo Pedro, but Milan restored their lead almost immediately when Leos’ effort was deflected.
Giroud joined Milan from Chelsea in the offseason and the 34-year-old scored his first goal in the 24th. Brahim Daz rushed forward from midfield and sent a ball to Giroud, who shot it across the net.
Giroud also converted a penalty two minutes into the half after Cagliari midfielder Kevin Strootmann handled the ball just inside the penalty area.
ROUTE ROMA
Salernitana had narrowly lost their first top flight in more than 20 years after being beaten 3-2 by Bologna last week.
It was much more humiliating in his first home game after a second-half surrender.
Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring three minutes after the start of the second half and also scored Romas fourth.
New striker Tammy Abraham opened his account at Roma in the 69th following a goal from Jordan Veretout.
Abraham, 23, is having a fantastic start to Serie A after scoring both goals and touching the crossbar in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina last week.
Abraham recently joined Roma from Chelsea for € 40m ($ 47m).
PERFECT RECORD
Substitute Andrea Petagna scored two minutes after coming off the bench as Napoli also claimed two out of two wins with a 2-1 win at Genoa.
Petagnas ‘goal came with six minutes to go after Genoa midfielder Andrea Cambiaso called Fabin Ruizs’ opener off.
