“Gironde Mon Amour”: A Poetry and Photography Competition Inspired by Château de Gironde

The Château de Gironde, its chapel, all perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Lot valley, gave Liliane Kalifa the idea of organizing a poetry and photo competition.

President of the cultural association l’S-en-ciel, Liliane Kalifa is behind a poetry and photography competition around the Gironde site, on the heights of Port d’Agrès, commune of Saint-Parthem. It’s called “Gironde mon amour”, it’s the first edition.

Why such a title? Liliana replies: I was only 7 years old when I entered this castle for the first time. I was born in Algeria, in Constantine, during the war. The works council of the city of Constantine had bought this castle to send the children to summer camp. I was one of those children, from 1956 to 1962. I keep wonderful memories of those stays, like a protective paradise. I felt safe here, in a solid framework, a community life that I liked, surrounded by a generous and colorful nature. I still have in my nostrils the smell of flowers, peppermint, boxwood… .

A magnificent site

In addition to the sentimental side, it is true that the place is magnificent, with its view overlooking the Lot River, even inspiring, offering serenity and many food for thought.

“I chose poetry because I have a long experience in this field when I was in charge of an association in Montpellier. Each year, we organized a competition around the theme of love, hence the name this competition, Gironde my love. As for photography, I am sensitive to the image and this exceptional site is very photogenic. It is up to poets and amateur photographers to express their creativity, their sensitivity. These are two languages of the same reality. The photographs of the participants will be exhibited at the Espace Jean Ségalat, in Decazeville.ajoute Liliane Kalifa.

Until July 5

The deadline for sending entries to this competition is July 5, so don’t delay. “They say that Constantine is a city with 7 bridges; for my part, I built an 8th between my heart and Gironde”, slides in conclusion Liliane Kalifa.
